Parodied intro of the television series Tropical Heat (Tropical Heat in Spain, Tropical Intrigue in Latin America) (years: 1991-1993) that includes scenes from the tropical saga

Both this article and this intro-parody are a small tribute to the fact of having reached the equator in this cinephile-tropical trip. We cross a symbolic barrier and from now on, we begin a subtle downhill on the other side of the mountain. We left behind a lot of debugging and distilling work, a great effort at narrative ellipsis, a tenacious search for shooting locations, a good dose of humor and censorship worthy of the NO-DO.

We are going to recap on the tropical films already seen, analyzing the paradisiacal destinations visited, and also the chronology. The viewing order of the feature films is staggered, as a result of a draw held hours before the screening, and for this reason it does not follow the natural chronology of the saga:

Throughout this journey around paradisiacal destinations around the planet, we have visited the French Antilles: Guadeloupe (five times: Tropical Heat, Caribbean Dream, Sin Island, Deadly Love in Paradise and Caribbean Vacation) and Martinique (both in Coral Honeymoon as in Sexy Business). We have traveled to French colonies in Africa such as Réunion (also five times: Tequila Bum Bum, Paradise Island, Ocean Dream, Aphrodisiac and Tropical Twins) and Mayotte (in African Temptation and in Studs & Coconuts). We have also flown to Spanish-speaking countries such as the Dominican Republic (again five times: The Private Reflex Survivors, Sunrise, Fashion in Paradise, Fantasy Lagoon and Puerto Rican Affairs) Finally, we have sailed the seas to the island of Nosy Be, in Madagascar, in Sensual Healing, and even the idyllic beaches of the Seychelles Islands, in Coconut Holiday).

And descending to the concrete, we have visited municipalities such as Cabarete and La Romana in the Dominican Republic; Saint Gilles de Bains and La Possession in Réunion; Sainte Anne, Le Gosier and Deshaies in Guadeloupe; Marigot and Ilet Thierry in Martinique; Mamoudzou in Mayotte; Andilana Beach in Nosy Be... Unrepeatable experiences and unforgettable scenes that were recorded forever on celluloid.

We cannot forget to mention more northern "shooting locations", far from the tropical islands, which appear in the films due to the demands of the script. For example: Naples, the Le Devens de Mougins urbanization, the Rue d'Antibes and the seafront in Cannes, the surroundings of the Opera House in Budapest, the Domaine Trigano in Ferolles-Attilly or the imposing Chateau de Rouillon on the banks of the Seine, not far from Paris.

After this retrospective, its time to anticipate succintly the tropical journey that we will face in the coming months that will once again take us to places as distant as Martinique, Réunion, Guadeloupe and the Dominican Republic. Several hours of pure cinema from the 2000-2010 decade and a lot of fun lie ahead.

  Sorprende la cantidad de personas que cruzan el Atlántico para pasarse una semana entera recostados sobre una tumbona de ratán, sin salir del resort del lujo que han escogido en un catálogo promocional y con el único afán de descansar y de buscar una tranquilidad digna de la piscina de Fuentecerrada, Teruel. Aquí en Europa disponemos también de unas playas alucinantes, tanto en España (véase Formentera o la Costa Brava) como en otros países como Portugal, Grecia, Croacia o en islas como Córcega y Cerdeña... ¿Quién en su sano juicio se embute en un asiento de clase turista para viajar a República Dominicana y disfrutar de unas calas similares? ¿De verdad las personas toman un vuelo de 9 horas o incluso pasajes con escala, para únicamente tomar el sol?... La respuesta es que sí. La banalidad, amigo lector, ha conquistado a la sociedad actual.

Crítica de cine: Private Tropical 10 "Caribbean Airlines" (2004) (Anita Keen, Jennifer Bark, Rita Very)

El drama de los ERE sobrevuela esta película de principio a fin, narrando las últimas vacaciones de unas compañeras de profesión, que se han visto afectadas por un reajuste de personal en la aerolínea para la que trabajaban. La filosofía del "carpe diem" ha calado hondo en sus corazones y deciden ponerla en práctica en la isla caribeña. Un planteamiento magnífico para este clásico de cine de tarde.

  A very brief panoramic view of a subtly colonial enclave places us directly in the paradisiacal destination. In a matter of seconds, we will be immersed in a matrimonial argument full of long faces and rudeness. There are many open wounds in the couple we see on screen, and their stormy relationship will be the common thread throughout the film.

Crítica de cine: Private Tropical 34 "Caribbean Sea Conspiracy" (2007) (Lauryn Way, Carla Box, Ellen Haint, Tarra Wait, Cindy Collar)

Un acusado tono sepia de la secuencia de apertura nos indica que estamos presenciando un evento del pasado. Es un flashback aderezado con una música digna de Ocean´s Eleven que acontece en un acogedor chalet de estilo antillano situado en Guadeloupe. Esa tonalidad es acertada hasta tal punto, que incluso la relacionamos de forma inconsciente con el calor húmedo de determinadas latitudes tropicales. Un hombre maduro con ínfulas, sombrero Panamá y puro Davidoff aguarda sentado en una mullida hamaca, al lado de una piscina calmada como plato de sopa abandonada a medio comer. Algo horrible está a punto de ocurrir...

Crítica de cine: Private Tropical 41 "British Virgin Ashes" (2008) (Keisha Bane, Leigh Dogan, Crystal Wink)

  Los estertores de un anciano inglés recostado en su lecho de muerte nos han traído hasta aquí. Al parecer, un moribundo pronunció tres cortas palabras en su lengua natal... eran su impulso terrenal antes de partir y, a la vez, su última voluntad. British... virgin... ashes, articuló no sin esfuerzo el septuagenario James Logan en la quietud de su hogar situado en la campiña de Dorset. Lejos quedaban ya sus noches de juerga en el The Royal Arcade Ballrooms de Boscombe, nada más regresar del, por aquel entonces obligatorio servicio militar (El National Service se abolió en 1963), sin embargo, su legendaria atracción por las mujeres veinteañeras seguía intacta cincuenta años más tarde.

  It's midnight. Eve of a wedding in style. The engaged couple strolls through a manicured French garden in Barre Trigano Castle, accompanied by a third woman. - "It is my parents' house" says the future wife. This luxurious mansion has little of a house and a lot of a palace. Everything is going great, even the relationship with the sister-in-law seems to be quite cordial and the atmosphere is calm.

Crítica de cine: Private Tropical 6 "Tequila Bum Bum" (2003) (Sandra Pusso, Tina Tagner, Alexa Gays, Maya Sold)

La película comienza con una  visión panorámica de Nápoles  al final de la tarde, sobre la Avenida Antonio Gramsci, a lo largo de la playa Mappatella, con el Castell d´l Ovo al fondo. En una casa palaciega napolitana, decorada con aire neoclásico, una pareja se despide. El pobre Alessandro se marcha a un viaje de trabajo, al sombrío y desolador Kiev, quién sabe si a revisar el sarcófago de la central de Chernobil. No parece ser un viaje atractivo.
